Emotet Virus Threat Level Raised

The threat level of the Trojan Virus called Emotet has now been raised, and has recently been reported on in the mainstream media. It is currently being spread through spam emails, targeting businesses and individuals. Designed to look like familiar emails that you would normally receive, it will try and persuade you to click on a malicious link or attachment. It may look like it’s from someone you know.

What sets this virus apart, is that it can sit undetected on a user’s PC, and it will use brute-force to attack other computers on your network by guessing its way through common passwords.

We have kept an eye on all DHS clients to look out for any potential vulnerabilities.

We would like to remind everyone to please use caution when opening attachments or clicking on links in emails, especially if you receive an email purportedly from someone you know that you weren’t excepting, or that may be out of the ordinary. These emails may bypass your spam filter.
